We had a shoot with Chloe yesterday (Saturday) and we decided to shoot it on slide film and then cross process it! I’ll get a little more technical at the bottom of this post as well as telling you how you can create this look yourself!

For this shoot Ruth had taken a second hand chair (kindly provided by Jim Montgomery Furniture, AKA ‘Dad’) and painted then distressed it. It was lucky that Chloe arrived with an entourage, it meant that I had someone to carry the chair for me! Chloe was full of mischief and lots of fun so the shoot went very well.

Note: Cross processing film creates unpredictable results and lots of contrast, in this shoot the results were a green cast or a very magenta cast in direct sunlight. I love it!

Creating this look is something that anyone can do. Slide Film, also known as Transparency Film can be bought online (my preference is Agfa Precisa and I keep a good stock of it in my studio). This film is popular for it’s very fine grain and normally requires a specialist process called E6, by processing it as you would normal colour film you create the results shown above. I process all my own film, but if you were to shoot a roll of this film and drop it off in Boots you would get same results ( I asked in Boots and they said as long as you tell them you are cross processing they are happy to do it for you).

Another location shoot shot on film (Portra 160vc for all you Nerds out there) and yet again I managed to get lost in Gosford, I don’t know why this happens but nearly every time I do a shoot there I end up wandering and backtracking trying to find something familiar!

Rachel was in a great mood, quite happy to splash in puddles, throw sticks into the river and as long as her bag of cheese was kept safe and there was the option to hold hands and swing she was very content indeed!

SandE 15 Film Photography with Sophie & Ethan!

Earlier in the week we posted on our Facebook Page that we had a bit of exciting news to share, so here we go…

After a number of trials last year we have decided to shoot all of our location portraits on film from now on, there are a number of reasons for this but the main one is simply because we love working on film and it’s something different from the norm! All the film will be hand developed by us in our refurbished darkroom so they will take roughly the same time as our digital shoots to prepare. We will continue to shoot digital for studio shoots and Weddings (unless you request otherwise) but this decision has been based on the very positive feedback that we received from our clients that chose to have film shoots last year.

Each of our location shoots will also now include a little album to make the shoot even more special as well as the option of real black and white film and stunning one of a kind hand printed black and white photographs! By the way, many thanks to all the people that emailed and texted asking if the exciting news was that we were having another baby… No, three is enough thanks!

We created a Why Film FAQ!

On to some Photographs!

We took our Niece and Nephew out to Peatlands Park just before sunset for a shoot to capture the lovely golden rays and to show you why we love film!

Our last Wedding of 2011 was with Elaine and David and it was a lovely way to round off this year.

We were kept in line during bridal prep by the flower girl Lucy who showed us her dress, played with my second camera and then had a bit of a rummage through my bag until she found my new gold Lomo Camera and then ran around taking photo’s of herself!

Elaine hates having her photograph taken, so every time a camera was pointed in her direction she quietly whispered “cheese!”. We were very lucky to have enough of a break in the rain to take a quick walk around Lurgan Park before heading to the Seagoe Hotel for the reception. The Wedding was recorded by Gary Mckinstry of Carpe Diem Videography who would be able to find a short cut on a straight empty road!

We had a lovely day yesterday with Lynsey and Tim, it was a little damp and very windy but with a candle lit ceremony to look forward to everyone was in a great mood! After a very calm visit to Lynsey’s house for bridal prep it was straight over to Seagoe Church and the guys from Orchid Studios had it looking fantastic!

Tim was a little nervous (although I doubt he’d admit it) but the groomsmen were doing their jobs well and the best man didn’t move further than 6 feet away from the rings as I was photographing them! After the ceremony there was time for a quick cuppa and then it was time to hit the road.

We arrived at the Hilton (second time is a charm…) and after a few more photos our work was done. Many thanks go out to the bridesmaids for taking the time to arrange Lynsey’s fantastic dress on the settee!

On a slightly unrelated subject I’m working at home this week and Louis walked in to watch me for a while and said, “Oh, nice shoes Daddy!” so even a five year old boy was impressed.

Just a quick post, and our last before Christmas!

We are Photographing Lynsey and Tim’s Wedding before the end of the year so we managed to squeeze an engagement shoot in at the start of December.

We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and look out for some big changes in the New Year!!

I’m just sitting with my laptop on my knee and listening to Ruth trying to shout instructions to the contestants on The Cube (she does this every time), so I decided to update my blog!

It was such a cold foggy day when I was out with Laura and Alan, but we decided to suck it up and went for a walk to get some photo’s. Once we had taken the sensible photographs we popped over to the play park to have a bit of a go on the swings, it was fun, relaxed and I’m looking forward to their Wedding!

I realize that all the photo’s I have chosen seem to be in black and white, I must need to go and shoot a few rolls of film and spend a day in the darkroom…

It’s a nice long blog post today for Lisa and Gareth and after several days of nasty, dark and above all wet days I woke up on the morning of Lisa and Gareth’s Wedding to the perfect Autumn morning!

It was crisp, and the light was beautiful with the sun low in the sky washing the world in a lovely warm glow. This is our favorite time of year, Ruth and I were Married on Halloween (8 years ago!) so it’s a very special time for us and we love working outside on a day like this. After the ceremony there were buns, which always go down well and then it was a bit of a drive to Cookstown for the reception at the Tullylagan. We admired the lovely vintage teapot centerpieces (the blue one was by far my favorite) and then took a walk through the trees that matched Lisa’s gorgeous gold dress perfectly and finished off with one or two photo’s inside.

Loads of photo’s!

One of the many reasons Ruth and I love Weddings is because we get to see some of the wonderful local traditions from all over the Uk. Helena hails from a part of the country where they like to shoot at Brides as they try to leave! Ok, maybe not shoot ‘at’ as such but there were firearms involved and traditions have to start somewhere so who knows…

Despite the shotgun action Helena arrived safely and it was a lovely ceremony followed by a bit of a drive across to Donegal for the reception. I seem to say this for every Wedding but we have had such a relaxed bunch this year, everyone was just happy to enjoy being with friends and family and having fun!

Anyway, I’ll post some photo’s:
