Lorraine and Gerard Wedding

It was a very musical day for Lorraine and Gerard, between the beautiful singing and the Adele quotes during the ceremony it was lovely!

The three bridesmaids were by far the biggest posers I have ever come across, if there was a camera 9 times out of 10 the girls where in front of it! Ruth and I had a lot of fun at this wedding, the guests were all genuinely happy be a part of the day and the Farnham Estate was wonderful as always!

Ruth isn’t here to spell check for me so I apologize for any ‘spolling nistakes’!! Oh, and I brought my Lensbaby along for some fun (I recommend these for any photographers to have a bit of a play with) for those of you wondering what caused the extreme blur around the edges of some of the photo’s, that’s why.

Weddings, Portraits and back to blogging!

It’s been a while since we updated the blog, so I’ll put a couple of post on today.

Portraits have been very busy for us, both in the studio and location but we have noticed that we get booked up very quickly when we get a spell of sunshine! Wedding season is back in full swing now and we are enjoying getting to try out some of the ideas we came up with over the winter months (we have a little book we draw ideas into).

A recent portrait, because it is a photography blog after all!

On a personal note, I was quite ill over Easter so I’ve not been able to ride my bike into work in ages (Doctors orders, two full weeks of recovery). I’ll be back to it next week though, it’s such a lovely fresh start to the day that I’ve been missing it. I can highly recommend it to anyone, hop on your bike and head into work! In a perfect world cyclists would get an extra 15-20 minutes grace to get into work, I know it makes me much more productive!

Alison and Timothy Engagement Part One – The Holga!

I had a shoot with Alison and Timothy at Murlogh Bay, I told Ruth were I was heading and she decided that Murlough Bay = Newcastle = Mauds = Cheesecake! So along she came! Whilst heading out the door Ruth grabbed our Holga (a cheap, toy camera that produces unpredictable results) she then nicked a roll of film from our shop and decided to have some fun.

Here are the results! My more sensible photographs will be in part 2.

Chloe and Cross Processing

We had a shoot with Chloe yesterday (Saturday) and we decided to shoot it on slide film and then cross process it! I’ll get a little more technical at the bottom of this post as well as telling you how you can create this look yourself!

For this shoot Ruth had taken a second hand chair (kindly provided by Jim Montgomery Furniture, AKA ‘Dad’) and painted then distressed it. It was lucky that Chloe arrived with an entourage, it meant that I had someone to carry the chair for me! Chloe was full of mischief and lots of fun so the shoot went very well.

Note: Cross processing film creates unpredictable results and lots of contrast, in this shoot the results were a green cast or a very magenta cast in direct sunlight. I love it!

Creating this look is something that anyone can do. Slide Film, also known as Transparency Film can be bought online (my preference is Agfa Precisa and I keep a good stock of it in my studio). This film is popular for it’s very fine grain and normally requires a specialist process called E6, by processing it as you would normal colour film you create the results shown above. I process all my own film, but if you were to shoot a roll of this film and drop it off in Boots you would get same results ( I asked in Boots and they said as long as you tell them you are cross processing they are happy to do it for you).

Rachel and Elizabeth

Another location shoot shot on film (Portra 160vc for all you Nerds out there) and yet again I managed to get lost in Gosford, I don’t know why this happens but nearly every time I do a shoot there I end up wandering and backtracking trying to find something familiar!

Rachel was in a great mood, quite happy to splash in puddles, throw sticks into the river and as long as her bag of cheese was kept safe and there was the option to hold hands and swing she was very content indeed!

Film Photography with Sophie & Ethan!

Earlier in the week we posted on our Facebook Page that we had a bit of exciting news to share, so here we go…

After a number of trials last year we have decided to shoot all of our location portraits on film from now on, there are a number of reasons for this but the main one is simply because we love working on film and it’s something different from the norm! All the film will be hand developed by us in our refurbished darkroom so they will take roughly the same time as our digital shoots to prepare. We will continue to shoot digital for studio shoots and Weddings (unless you request otherwise) but this decision has been based on the very positive feedback that we received from our clients that chose to have film shoots last year.

Each of our location shoots will also now include a little album to make the shoot even more special as well as the option of real black and white film and stunning one of a kind hand printed black and white photographs! By the way, many thanks to all the people that emailed and texted asking if the exciting news was that we were having another baby… No, three is enough thanks!

We created a Why Film FAQ!

On to some Photographs!

We took our Niece and Nephew out to Peatlands Park just before sunset for a shoot to capture the lovely golden rays and to show you why we love film!

Elaine and David

Our last Wedding of 2011 was with Elaine and David and it was a lovely way to round off this year.

We were kept in line during bridal prep by the flower girl Lucy who showed us her dress, played with my second camera and then had a bit of a rummage through my bag until she found my new gold Lomo Camera and then ran around taking photo’s of herself!

Elaine hates having her photograph taken, so every time a camera was pointed in her direction she quietly whispered “cheese!”. We were very lucky to have enough of a break in the rain to take a quick walk around Lurgan Park before heading to the Seagoe Hotel for the reception. The Wedding was recorded by Gary Mckinstry of Carpe Diem Videography who would be able to find a short cut on a straight empty road!

Here are some Photo’s!
